Old News: The New Bat Family

Well, I'll say this...The new Bat Family is looking hotter than EVER!!

WHY DO WE NEED A REBOOT?

thunder...Thunder...THUNDER CAT.... Errr I mean Thor



OK, lets get it out of the way, I went to see Thor mostly because Thor is smoke'in hot...and I was not disappointed in this respect at all.  :)

That being said, I was happy to find that the movie turned out to be pretty good...Really good in fact.  Well acted and with the silliness being kept to the min.  And I must say hat's off to whoever decided that Thor should actually use his hammer in the same manner he uses it in the comics.  It made me smile and really isn't that all we ask?

To be honest, I really didn't have high hopes and so it is always nice when something exceeds your expectations.  This wasn't a game changer kind of movie...it's not "The Matrix" or "The Dark Knight" but it is a good romp.  Loki (my crush on James Avery holding firm) looks great with his giant horns.  And Asgard is just amazing.  Bad sets can kill a movie and good sets can create a classic (Just look at the original Dune; terrible script but awesome sets).

As for the 3D, well you really didn't need it.  The Movie would have held up without it and only the scenes in Asgard were worth the effort.



X-Men - A First Class Movie

I've got a thing for James McAvory.  I'll watch just about anything that he is in and when he is in something I really want to see, then all the better.  And this was a better movie than any that have come before.

This felt like the X-Men had finally settled into the movies and so we don't need a lot of background on new characters, they are just there...they have powers...let's move on.  And so, we get a good story, if somewhat predictable (that's not always a bad thing especially when it's fun).

I found layers here.  You got the good mutant against the not so good mutants and the good and not so good against the really bad mutants while all the young mutants are having to deal with their teenage angst.  Now isn't that what the X-Men have always been about?

Plus there were some sweet unexpected if brief cameos...

Worth the price of admission... HOWEVER!!!

Don't expect comic book continuity here. Think of it as an Exiles version of X-Men history and you'll be fine. The best part of the movie is that it's set in the 60's so Emma doesn't look out of place walking around in her underwear the whole time. Not to mention that Beast (pre-transformation), Havoc and Banshee are all pretty good eye candy as well.

I'm going to see this tomorrow in 3D.  Hopefully the 3D will be better then in Thor.

OLD NEWS: WALKING DEAD

Well, it's being reported that AMC will be making the Walking Dead comic into a new tv series. I for one can not wait. This is one of the best books out there and would make a great show. Now my only concern, are they going to water it down because it's AMC? One would hope that Robert Kirkman will now allow it. We'll have to wait and see.
