Televison: Top Shows this Week!

This show just keeps getting better...Who is the Alpha?  Will we ever see Stiles Shirtless?  Where is Derrick?

Ok, I'm one behind on this, but WOW... I am so loving Torchwood.  It's a bit slow moving, but it's so nice to have Captain Jack back!!

Tonight's Episode could very well be the best ever.  Tara's mom driving out the evil spirits was classic and not to be missed. Hoyt and Jason?  And Pam, poor poor Pam!!!  TOP OF The WEEK goes to...

True Blood.

TV Review: True Blood Season 4 Premire

Well, it's that time of year, time for our favorite bloodsuckers to return...and return they did.  And I must say what a welcome return it is.  It seems like forever since we have seen these guys.

We open to find Sookie sharing some quality time with her Fairy friends and boy does she get a surprise when someone from her past happens to show up.  Well, things for Sookie turn from good to bad, as often they do, and suddenly we find ourselves transported to some point in the last Harry Potter movie as wicked magic is being cast about left and right.

Sookie gets back home only find everything has changed and for everyone else it is a year later.  Most shocking of all is that brother Jason has grown a goatee that I'm not sure yet makes him hotter or not.

We find that Tara has been busy making friends.  Tara also has been trying to find herself through the ancient art of Mortal Combat and her own verison of blood sports.

Lafayette has been exploring sober life of partnership bliss with Jesus who looking for some wicked Hoodoo any place he can get it.

My personal favorite couple, Jessica and Hoyt are finding that in "young love", love is not always all you need, especially when one of them is a thirsty new vampire.

Oh Yeah, that whole Sookie, Bill and Eric story is still going on, but really, it wasn't really important.  What was important is that Pam got some good air time and some awesome one liners.  After all isn't that why we really watch the show?

In the end, everyone pretty much got some good screen time.  Alcide is missing which is a shame, but I'm sure with all the adverts he's been in he will show up soon.  Sam was there, but he was grumpy again, I'm really not liking him.  I liked when he was sweet Sam, not I hate the world Sam.

All in all, it was a great premiere throwing you right in the middle of everything and letting the chips fall as they will...which is what the show is be at.  The dark campiness hasn't left the show which is what makes it unique and fun.  I for one can't wait to bite into the meat of season four!!

Book Review: Heir to the Empire

STAR WARS: THRAWN
BOOK ONE
HEIR TO THE EMPIRE
By Timothy Zahn

.

I had this book when I was a kid, and since I still act like a kid, I finally got around to actually reading it.  It was long over due...but I just couldn't get myself to sit down with it and start reading it.  I'm sorry to say I think my main problem was the size of the font in the paperback that I had.  It was tiny, and I just can't read a book with tiny print.  It's not there is anything wrong with my eyes, it just feels like I am on the same page forever and I'm not getting anywhere.

And then, modern science brought us the tablet PC and the E-Reader with the ability to make the font any size or shape or color you want.  That was all I needed to finally sit down with this first book in the Thrawn Series...and I'm all the happier for it.

Enter Thrawn, a rather enjoyable supervillian, come to take the place of the now dead Empire and his side kick some guy named Darth Vader.  But standing in his way is Luke Skywalker (even though Luke doesn't appear to realize that he is standing in the way).

But have no fear, all Luke's old friends are there (except for the one's that died in the movies), to help our Jedi (and his soon to be Jedi sister) survive the oncoming storm that is Thrawn.

The book is actually quite good and Zahn does a great job of reminding us why we love these characters.  There is a little less adventure then I had thought there would be, but maybe there is more to come in the following books.

I'm putting reading the other books on hold for the moment because I want to go back and read the current series of books that have been released (Post Empire).  I'm currently about half way through "Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor" which I'm loving and will have review of that when I'm finished.

Well, I can say I'm very happy to have finally been able to read these books.  I'm finding it all well worth the effort.

My Rating: [8 out of 10]

"Bad Things Happen..." (like super8) "...But you can still live!"

Oh Come on. What year was this supposed to be set in? Half the cast was still living in the 70's the other half the 60's. No one dressed like this in the 80's and Disco was already dead!! And can we rip off every movie ever made with a group of kids in it while never having actually watched any of those movies? Explores, ET, Close Encounters, Stand By Me, Goonies, flight of the navigator and weird science...what do you get when you rip all those movies apart and then cram them back together into a really long movie? (Not So)Super 8. Sappy, pridictable, flimsy cardboard cutout of what made other movies special. Sorry...but if it hadn't been that i wanted to know what the moster looked like I would have left. After seeing the monster (**Spoiler**) who is moved by the words "Bad things Happen, but you can live!" I wish I had walked out.
